The Saga of Hair Cuts

Have you ever wondered why different types of hair and curls look so different from each other? For a long time I used to be fond of straight hair, silky hair - the type that falls on your face and very gently, delicately you push it out of your face and then it comes down again, cascading beautifully. And you push it back softly with your fingers.. and so on.

But curls by definition are all matted together, all intertwined with each other making one big mass of undefined hair sticking at the back of your neck.

That’s what I believed till I found a good stylist who knew how to cut my hair. For the longest time I wanted to go to Sapna Moti Bhavnani  and her salon Mad-o-wat (remember her, the one with tattoos all over?) but that never really happened. Eventually I found my way to another tattooed hair stylist Avani Yashwin of Happy in the Head , somewhere around 2015 and that’s when I really started enjoying my curls.

Styled nicely with layers and cut by someone who understands curls has really been a game changing theory for me. And for most other curly heads I have known. The key to taming curly hair is not to to get it into one straight line, but to give it more layers and make it appear more wild so that it gets flowy and not static.

Then when Isha started her studio The Alchemic Beauty , it revolutionized the way my curls looked and felt, I experimented with cut and color and started feeling very confident in the way I looked. Because Isha and her team not only give spectacular hair treatments, but also give a pep talk about accepting hair as it is. Which really hits the bulls eye coming from a specialist.

Happy hair, happy people, what say?
